Ingrid Stein's recent etchings are inspired by art historical pieces, art work handed down by tradition or remembered. Starting point of a series of prints is, for instance, the apocalyptical downpour in a painted dream by Albrecht Dürer. And time and again the power of nature in the tremors and torrents of California has left a lasting impression on the artist. During the process of developing and printing the image, using a wide range of plates as a modular material, she transforms the motif into her own artistic statement, and produces series of one-of-a-kind prints, variations on a theme. She uses the ability of art to give a consoling beauty to the threatening contents.
